Outdoor Trails is a proud supporter of Boy Scouts of America. Lee Futrell, the President and founder of Outdoor Trails, has been a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years with troop 209 of Roanoke, Virginia. John (our Lynchburg manager) and Mark (our Daleville manager) both learned most of what they know about the outdoors from Scouts. As Eagle Scouts, they both embrace the principles of Scouting in their personal and professional lives and strive to serve as examples of the benefits of being involved in this honorable organization.

Each year, Lee looks forward to his week at Camp Powhatan with troop 209. Located in Pulaski County, Virginia on the Blue Ridge Mountains Scout Reservation, Camp Powhatan is a beatiful retreat where Scouts can camp, hike, swim, kayak, canoe, and participate in a number of other activities to earn a variety of merit badges. The 2007 trip to camp Powhatan was especially memorable this year as it was Lee's grandson Matthew's first trip to camp. Matthew enjoyed his trip where he learned to swim and obtained rank of First Class. He can't wait to go back next year!

This year was also Mark's son Gavin's first trip to Camp Powhatan. He's not a Scout quite yet, but his dad hopes that he will be one day. And even though the Blue Ridge Mountains Scout Reservation is mostly for Boy Scouts, they let our girl Sydney swim in the lake. She had a great time fetching her stick, and she's already looking forward to visitng again next summer.
