Meet Our Staff

Our Lynchburg location features a knowledgeable sales staff with diverse outdoor interests and experience.

John Futrell opened the first Outdoor Trails store just down the road from it's current location and has been General Manager ever since. John's love for the outdoors began during his childhood, which he spent hiking and exploring the woods around his home. Growing up in Roanoke, John naturally developed a love for the Appalachian Trail. John furthered his love for outdoor adventure through his participation in the Boy Scouts of America, where he became an Eagle Scout. John enjoys hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, rock and ice climbing, and telemark skiing. He is extremely skilled and has an exceptional knowledge of gear and great places to go and use your gear. Come by and speak to our resident expert in the outdoors.

While at the store, make sure you meet John’s wife, Andrea, who has been helping in the store for years and came on full time in the Fall of 2008 as a Store Manager. Andrea shares John’s love for the outdoors and has added a woman’s touch to the store. She will be more than happy to assist you with clothing, shoes, children’s items, and gear for your specific needs.

Our other employees at the Lynchburg location include Wyatt, who has been with us for 6 years. Wyatt is also an Eagle Scout and enjoys camping, backpacking, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, and snowboarding. Wyatt enjoys sharing his experiences with our customers and can help you find the right gear to suit your needs. Ask him about his new chocolate lab puppy, Kavu, who you may see waddling through the store.

Garland has been with us for over two years and is experienced in hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. He participates each year in the Bateau Festival, this year floating in a kayak. He is at the store in the evenings and loves to talk gear, especially Yakima rack systems.

Jaime is the newest addition to the store. She is happy to help you get the right shoes and clothes for your outdoor adventures.

Bennett has been with us for 2 years, and is currently attending Wofford College.  He is also an Eagle Scout, and very knowledgeable about the outdoors.  Look for Bennett on holiday breaks and throughout the summer.

And Don't Forget the Shop Dogs!

Gizmo (left) and Tigger (right) are our most beloved employees at the Lynchburg store. When you arrive at the Lynchburg location, Gizmo will usually greet you at the front door, which is her favorite place to lay so she can welcome you when you arrive. Gizmo is very friendly, gives lots of kisses and loves attention. She loves to be petted, especially on her belly. If you pet her, she will quickly become your new best friend. Gizmo is wonderful with children and loves to help keep them occupied while you shop. Tigger is also very friendly and great with kids.

Gizmo and Tigger both will be happy to show you our variety of dog items, such as leashes, collars, dog packs, toys, and most importantly treats! They are all Gizmo and Tigger approved!
